lou
my current style inspiration has to be the french model/actress lou doillon, i think she is so gorgeous plus she has such a bad ass and quirky style that i would love to pull off
and her half sister is charlotte gainsbourg! who i love as an actress (and think is so pretty as well)

jacket woes
urban outfitters MINKPINK Platoon Anorak
this summer during my painting class i ended up getting paint stains all over my favorite green jacket, now i feel weird whenever i wear it but i still love it and don't want to get rid of it so i just suffer through my thoughts that because of the paint it makes me look like a "stylish bag lady" as my grandma sometimes calls my style
i decided that maybe i should find a replacement but have yet to find something just as good, i saw this one at urban outfitters that has a similar feel but it's cotton and mine was polyester which i usually hate to wear but it made the jacket quick dry if it got wet which was a great perk, plus the urban outfitters one has a hood which i like but also mine has one of the coolest funnel necklines
i think i may try to look at it and make pattern pieces from it and make another one but as i glanced at it i began to doubt my ability, plus the original was one super sale and only cost five dollars and i don't know if the new one will be as good with my shoty craftsmanship

welcome home
a lady who works at one of my favorite antique stores told me yesterday that the guy at one of my favorite booths is supposed to be bringing in a bunch of 40s winter coats, it made me really excited because i have such a weakness for coats and they end up being my favorite items of clothing most of the time
also, i was reading a recent post by pink shirts and car wrecks and i came across another weakness, a recipe for homemade pesto! i am so excited about makeing some now
pesto
2 c. basil
3 big cloves garlic
1/3 c. pine nuts
1/2 c. extra virgin olive oil
1/3 parmesan or romano cheese
sea salt and cracked pepper
pulse basil and pine nuts in blender. add garlic and pulse. add oil in a steady stream while blending, stop to scrape down sides. add cheese (but not if you're freezing it) and pulse. season to taste.

aspirations
i am so in love with this bag that Alice of forestbound made from an old WWII era canvas stretcher, i can't wait until her etsy store is back up so i can buy at least one thing instead of admiring items that end up being bought up by other lucky customers

don't trust me
i know to a lot of people i seem like the kind of girl who only likes folk style singer/songwriter music, but that is not true i like many kinds of music and i must say i love 3OH!3
and the absurdity of their videos is pretty rad

lyell
remember in an earlier "junk" post where i posted an image of one of the works by the artist henry darger? he is actually one of my favorite artists and i am a bit shocked that i have yet to do an artist spotlight post about him
well my love of him made me even more excited when i read about the NYC brand Lyell and their use of darger's artwork in a collage to display the collection that they do in collaboration with urban outfitters
i'm a bit sad that i can't afford anything by them in my current state of unemployment (i think me mentioning that is beginning to become a trend) but at least i can look at the pretty pictures of their clothes and get inspiration as i hope to visit their shop sometime in the future

twenty
dress: made by me
sunglasses: earthbound trading co.
70s spoon ring: my mothers
necklace: gift from my BFF (for my 19th birthday)
shoes: vulture culture vintage
i had my twentieth birthday last saturday, it wasn't that exciting but i did finish the dress that i was making specifically for it in time, at least if "in time" includes the morning of...
i mentioned above that it wasn't exciting but i did do something instead of lounging at my parent's house, my mother, grandmother, sister and i went to the Lazy 5 Ranch where we saw a bunch of adorable animals (including lemurs!) and later on i hung out with my BFF, her fiance, and another friend and we sat around and ate pizza while we watched episodes of the last season of Buffy on DVD, it totally made me think of middle school when there used to be reruns of buffy on TV all the time which, as i nerdy as it is, i kind of miss
